How will your donations be used?

Our staff compliment is made up of professionals and thus salaries for occupational therapists and other multidisciplinary professionals such as a speech and language therapist or a physiotherapist is our priority.

The clinical roles include provision of training courses, provision of the adoption assessments and therapy, hands on therapy and on site training in the homes to caregivers as well as managing the volunteers that work with Thusanani. Other roles carried out by the team include management and administration, fundraising, strategic planning, clinical supervision, collection and distribution of donated clothing and educational toys.

The more funding we secure, the more professionals and support staff we can employ. Ideally we would like to expand our service to other provinces around South Africa and in turn expand the number of children whose lives can be changed.

Resources for Training Workshops

Thusanani conducts two workshops on the promotion and stimulation of normal development, the prevention of disability as well as how to make inexpensive toys. The workshops are held at the Childrens Memorial Institute as well as at the various children's homes. Each participant on the workshop for community based crèche workers, is given a starter toy making kit to encourage them to use the skills learnt at the workshop to make toys in their communities at home.

Regular sponsorship of our starter 'Toy Making Kits' for community workshop participants

  • R40 will provide 1 starter 'toy making kit'
  • R400 will provide 10 starter 'toy making kits'

The following items are needed in the preparation for and set up of each workshop:

  • Clear plastic overhead projector sheets
  • Small binding rings
  • A4 sheets of coloured cardboard
  • A4 laminating sheets / pockets
